In A Flash: The Consequences of Youth Firesetting
Video

The aim of this video is to show the dangers of fire and to expose young people to the tragic consequences of setting them, resulting in the avoidance of fire-play altogether. The central theme is: If you play with fire, you will get burned.
The video is centered on the real-life tragedy of Gordon Pranger. As a young boy, Gordon played with fire and as a result was severely burned. He was permanently scarred and disfigured by his accident, which has also impaired his hearing, speech, and physical mobility. It only took seconds for Gordon’s fire to get out of control and to drastically change his life.
The video’s narrator introduces Gordon and highlights the tragic outcomes of playing with fire. Expert testimonials given by a doctor at a burn unit, a firefighter, a police officer, and a brief clip of a convicted juvenile firesetter are interspersed throughout the video explaining in detail some of the permanent and life-threatening consequences that can occur. The narrator concludes the video by giving suggestions on what kids can do if they know of or see someone who plays with fire.

This is a true story of a young burn victim who was covered over 99% of his body by 3rd degree burns after setting fire in his garage, which is important because children learn the long-term physical and emotional scars fire-setting can cause. |
