Biothreat: Botulism
Book

Part of a series designed to calm public concern about terrorism, "Biothreat: Botulism" addresses the risk of this disease being used as a biological weapon.
The full-color booklet provides a brief history about botulism, how to recognize its symptoms, how it spreads, and treatment options available to the public. Botulism is shown in four forms – foodborne, wound, infant or intestinal and inhalation. The ways in which each type is contracted, what the symptoms are and how they are treated are all listed in the booklet. Ways to avoid botulism are also given. Readers are told that there is a vaccine to prevent contraction of botulism but, if the disease is contracted antitoxins are available for treatment.
Also provided in the booklet are phone numbers and Web site addresses for additional resources.
